Hello, Stef here.
Originally from London, England I have recently moved to Auckland, New Zealand. I’ve been playing music since a young age and have been in bands and the music industry in general since I was around 16. Like a lot of producers, I started as an artist myself, originally in bands and over the years some solo ventures too. When I was younger, I was lucky enough to record in some nice studios, work with some very talented producers and writers, and perform at some great venues and festivals. From time to time, I still make music with some good friends in a project called Port Louix, which isn’t very active but a lot of fun when we do work together.
From the get go I was always really into sound and tone as much as I was the music itself. I play a few instruments, but I’m a guitarist primarily and loved messing around with amp settings and pedals. After a while, this love of messing around naturally found it's way into the production and engineering side of things. Now I'm no longer tied to just a guitar, I can throw anything through silly amounts of effects if I like (though that’s often not the right choice)
I like to experiment a lot and I like to leave room for happy accidents. I’m not the sort of person who likes things perfect all the time, I enjoy the contrast between clean, polished elements and dirty, rough elements. To me, this balance feels more human.
I work with artists to help them develop, sometimes that's through my experience in writing and performing, sometimes that's just by adding some character to the sound and sometimes, it's both. I primarily work in indie, alternative and pop, but I will happily work on anything that I resonate with and think I’ll be able to help elevate.
Get in touch if you think we may work well together, I’d love to hear from you.
